Nepali Movie - Jhola | Nepali film Jhola is based on the book with the same title by Krishna Dharabasi. This film is directed by Yadav Kumar Bhattarai, and produced by Malati Shah, Ram Gopal Thapa, Raj Timalsina and Shusil Shah. Jhola features Garima Panta, Desh Bhakta Khanal, Sujal Nepal, Laxmi Giri & Deepak Chhetri in the key role.

Nepali Movie - Jhola


The story of this film is about the Sati practice that was widespread across Nepali society, which was until the 1920s in which a wife had to immolate herself upon her husband’s death, typically on his funeral pyre. (This practice was popular in India as well, but this story only focus on Nepali society.)

Nepali Movie - Jhola was declear super-hit across Nepal, and it won many awards. Actress Garima Panta won Best Actress award at SAARC Film Festival held in Sri Lanka, 2014 for her role in this movie. This film was selected as the Nepali entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 87th Academy Awards, but was not nominated. It is still yet to release in some countries where Nepali communities are.

Story:
Ghanashyam, a little boy who lives with his mother, Kanchhi (Garima Panta) and his ailing father (Deepak Chhetri) who is very older than his mother. After her husband passes away, Kanchhi's life becomes a nightmare. According to the village's law, she is expected to sacrifice herself on the funeral pyre of her husband. Because she has a little son that she doesn't want to leave him alone in the very small age, she got out of the fire by tricking people around, and ran away.
